fog

fog blog entry as the heat wave subsided - has fog ever been to blame for numerous deaths (aside from maritime accidents and driving in pea soup) ?
may develop a screenplay about heat waves called Heat Wave 06 - Hades' Oven. Jeff and i have been bouncing around some ideas such as the main character is in a race against time to deliver ice cold iced tea to the people in overheated and pretty stuffy apartments. Tom Berenger will play the wise but surly sun tea brewer who says stuff like "Get off your ass and get me more tea bags. Go on and save someone!" Jack Black will play the air conditioner repairman who is always a shade too late, and becomes angry and cynical towards the heat and towards life itself. In an ironic twist, his van breaks down because the air conditioning fails. He is left to be saved by our hero, perhaps played by Matthew Modine. In the end, a cool rain falls and the bodies are bagged and a mass migration of people move northward to cooler climes, cooler lives, igloo coolers.
my new bike is giving me the creeps. the shifing in the front is screwed up after trying a smaller chainring. i go yet again to the shop in hopes of spending even more money on making it right so i never have to ever step foot in there with a problem again. it really is hard to pedal that fucker up a steepish hill. would a compact crank help? god if i know. i have a feeling it is the right thing to do. do i? yes, i do.
also, apparently i have a laissez faire attitude about new jobs that require sitting in a hot cramped room with teenagers doing glorified data entry and i dont ask enough questions of people. that takes the cake. i do know i am pretty bad at handing elite triathletes water as they run fastly by me for all the glory. i still cringe at the gatorade that doused that one lanky dude. they started to run past me and get it from the next people. i held the cups too high. to high!
other things: sapsuckers are an integral part of a forest ecosystem by tapping the sap they create food for other insects and hummingbirds and they in turn pollenate and are added to the food chain, you can make water by covering a bunch of leaves with plastic in a bin and letting the condensation drip into a cup in the middle, banjos originated in africa, new borat movie comes out pretty soon, rutting deer are very dangerous, and google is in the news every single day.

aw, nothing

just sitting around in a relaxing outfit two shades of grey. it is getting late tilting towards another week of safe and static. could a change be a tootin' a whistle at us passersby? denver sure is nice. some pretty sweet oldish places there. some tall and untamable terrain there. i like it here, but all the routes are the same - getting to places unexplored is too involved. it is fun but unpracticable.
saw strangers with candy movie today - it started off pretty good, and a few one liners here and there gave it some levity, but matthew broderick is so lame now - such a large gap between ferris and broadway. he seems a tool to me. and hoffman's character is such a lame one. just buy the dvds of the show and quit bothering me. i am disappointed, okay. hollywood always fucks good things up. they think everything has to be so much more than it needs to be to sell more to masses of soulless posers.
poseurs.
i think i am becoming a stodgy crabbyface older curmudgeon. i really think that the big reason i will eventually leave SF is the aviators.

songs to learn and sing

hello. i went CD shopping today (and orthotics shopping and vintage clothing shopping and ebay shopping - got the Japan 81 journey shirt, amongst others in a lot that some vintage resellers were warring with me on; i am very excited to own another example from the herbert auction that i missed out on)
and it was one of the more eclectic days for me in amoeba
got:
pink floyd - wish you were here: god it is so good and ahead of its time. beautifully produced and written and composed. crank up welcome to the machine sometime and you will quite possibly cream your jeans.
the softies - holiday in rhode island: a pretty little duet of ladies that sounds really pretty and lovely when you are in the mood for mellow and lovely
the lucksmiths - happy secret: the bass player is so great in this australian group - recommended in the amoeba music we listen to and i thank them for that shit
deftones - white pony: since i got team sleep, i have been pretty obsessed with this chico moreno character. hard and smart and well produced. cool stuff
echo & the bunnymen - songs to learn and sing: a classic from a long time ago that holds up so so well. i saw the video for killing moon on the dubdubdub and loved it. this is one fine album start to finish for you modern rock folk. nope, for anybody. how could anyone not like this? i could see the deftones angering someone, or the softies making someone feel uncomfortable with their sensitive side rearing up, or floyd may be too lumbering and trippity. but this is universal and catchy and outright good. just get the thing and play air guitar to it.
